Before you start
- Cut hazard
- Wear cut-resistant gloves
- Wear safety glasses
- Wear long or cut-resistant sleeves
- Dispose of blades in a closed container
- Work on a firm, flat, well-lit surface with the material held in place.
- Cut with the tip moving away from your body and from the hand holding the material.
- Extend only the blade you need and put it away as soon as you finish.
- Replace the blade when it gets dull, because a dull blade needs more force and slips.
- Don't use the tool as a pry bar or a screwdriver.
- Keep tools and refills out of the reach of children.
Load or replace the blade
Step 1:
Loosen the collet
With the tip pointing down and away from you, turn the knurled front piece counterclockwise until the blade is loose.
Step 2:
Take out the used blade
Pull it out by the back end with pliers, or with your fingers on the flat part, never by the edge.
Step 3:
Insert the new blade
Push it straight in, all the way to the bottom of the collet slot.
Step 4:
Tighten the collet
Turn the knurled piece clockwise until the blade does not move. Tighten firmly, without forcing the thread.
Step 5:
Check it
Carefully touch the blade by its spine and, if it moves, tighten a little more before cutting.
Cutting
Step 1:
Hold it like a pencil
Hold the handle like a pencil, with your index finger on the knurled grip, and cut with the tip.
Step 2:
Cut on a base
Use a cutting mat or thick cardboard, never your hand or an unprotected table.
Step 3:
Several light passes
Lay a metal ruler down and make several light passes. Don't pry with the tip, because it breaks.
Step 4:
Cover the tip when done
Store the knife with the tip covered, never loose in a bag or a drawer.
