Before you start

  • Cut hazard
  • Wear cut-resistant gloves
  • Wear safety glasses
  • Wear long or cut-resistant sleeves
  • Dispose of blades in a closed container
  • Work on a firm, flat, well-lit surface with the material held in place.
  • Always cut with the blade moving away from your body, with your other hand behind the ruler and out of the path.
  • Extend only the blade you need and put it away as soon as you finish.
  • Replace the blade when it gets dull, because a dull blade needs more force and slips.
  • Don't use the tool as a pry bar or a screwdriver.
  • Keep tools and refills out of the reach of children.

Load or replace the blade

  1. Step 1:

Take the blade out the back

Pull the red slider back until it comes out of the back of the handle with the blade.

  2. Step 2:

    Release the used blade

Hold it by its spine, never by the edge, and unhook it from the slider.

  3. Step 3:

    Fit the new blade

Hook an 18 mm blade onto the slider through its hole, with the edge facing down and the break lines toward the tip.

  4. Step 4:

Insert it from the back and check

Slide the slider with the blade into the back of the handle, push it forward and extend one segment to check that it locks.

Snap off the worn segment

  1. Step 1:

    Extend one segment

Extend only the tip segment, the one that no longer cuts.

  2. Step 2:

    Snap it along its line

Grip it with pliers and snap it along the line in one firm move, outward and away from you.

  3. Step 3:

    Dispose of it

Put the snapped segment in a rigid, closed container.

Cutting

  1. Step 1:

    Extend little blade

One or two segments are enough for most cuts, because more blade bends and breaks.

  2. Step 2:

    Use a metal ruler

Lay it on the line and run the cutter along it several times with light pressure, instead of once with force.

  3. Step 3:

    Retract the blade when done

Slide the blade back in before you put the cutter down, even for a moment.
