Before you start
- Cut hazard
- Wear cut-resistant gloves
- Wear safety glasses
- Wear long or cut-resistant sleeves
- Dispose of blades in a closed container
- Work on a firm, flat, well-lit surface with the material held in place.
- Pull the hook along the ruler with your supporting hand on the ruler, out of the blade's path.
- Extend only the blade you need and put it away as soon as you finish.
- Replace the blade when it gets dull, because a dull blade needs more force and slips.
- Don't use the tool as a pry bar or a screwdriver.
- Keep tools and refills out of the reach of children.
- Scoring acrylic releases fine dust, so work in a ventilated place.
Load or replace the blade
Step 1:
Push the blade out
Push the slider all the way forward until the blade comes out of the handle.
Step 2:
Remove the used blade
Hold it by its spine, never by the hook, and take it off the slider.
Step 3:
Fit the new blade
Seat a hook blade on the slider, hook facing down, and slide it back into the handle.
Step 4:
Adjust and check
Extend only the hook and check that the slider locks before scoring.
Cutting acrylic
Step 1:
Mark the line
Leave the protective film on and mark the line on it. If you peel it, do so only along the line.
Step 2:
Secure the sheet and ruler
Lay the sheet on a firm table and a metal ruler on the line, clamped if you can.
Step 3:
Score with the hook
Set the hook at the start of the line and pull it along the ruler with even pressure. Repeat several passes in the same groove, without sawing back and forth.
Step 4:
Snap the sheet
Line the groove up with the table edge, facing up. Hold the part on the table and push the overhang down in one move.
Step 5:
Smooth the edge
The edge is sharp, so sand or file it before handling the piece.
If the sheet doesn't snap, score more passes. If it is very thick, use a saw for plastic.
